Those Moments When…
1. It goes pitch black just before a concert starts…
There is a build up of overwhelming excitement, and everybody begins clapping or screaming (depending on whether this is a One Direction or Imagine Dragons concert).
2. You quickly put on that warm sweatshirt that’s just come from the dryer…
You suddenly feel the need to hug yourself to take in as much warmth as possible before it all disappears (or maybe that’s just me…).
3. You get into a bed with freshly made sheets…
It makes me just feel happy to fall asleep. I love this! Sometimes when I’ve made my bed earlier in the day, I just want to go to bed at 9pm, even if I’m not tired, because I’m looking forward to going to sleep in new sheets!
4. You do that first Rolly Polly on your bed…
You instantly find yourself with a huge grin on your face, a rush to the head, and suddenly you’re that 8-year-old kid again. (Try it out on your bed, I just did!)
5. Your friend hugs you for just that little bit longer…
If you know my family and I, we’re huggers! For me, there’s something special about those hugs that are more than just a polite ‘I’m hugging you because that’s what you’re supposed to do’ hug, they're a ‘I’m hugging you because you actually mean something to me and I’m going to hug you for as long as I want and squeeze you extra tight’ hug. Those people are the keepers.
6. You tense your biceps, and you actually see lumps!
For a long time I couldn’t really see any form of a biceps brachii bulging from arms. But I remember that one day (after regularly attending the gym) I tensed my biceps in the mirror and I got a pleasant lump staring right on back at me! That was a good day!
7. You’re tucked up in bed all warm and cosy then it starts raining…
You can hear all the raindrops pitter-pattering on the roof. I had an app that could create this sound for me, but it could never quite get it right. There is something special about those nights when the rain comes. The sounds somehow calm you to sleep.
8. You’re in the fastest moving lane while in a traffic jam…
This is a personal favourite of mine. I can be an angry driver… Yes, it does annoy me when there’s that person going 95km/h when they could be getting away with 105km/h, not going to lie. So, it’s those moments when I pass all those suckers in the line and get to my destination faster that I do enjoy.
9. You fold your A4 piece of paper perfectly into thirds and it fits in the envelope perfectly…
I’m not super OCD perfectionist, but I love it when I’m able to fit an object into something and it fits just right. Lets be honest though, we all have those little OCD traits in us somewhere, there’s always that one thing.
10.The waves wash over your feet and pull the sand away from under your heels and toes...
It kind of tickles, and makes the sand feel really awesome! Not to mention the amazing salty air, the sound of the waves crashing on the shore, and that one person who doesn’t realise the nudist beach is down the road further, there’s always one.
11.You correctly guess the actor behind an animated character in a movie…
This is another favourite of mine. I love it when I’m able to search through my brain (that is filled with so much stuff!) and suddenly remember where I’ve heard that voice before! Once this is achieved, for me it means going onto the likes of Wikipedia or IMBD and finding out other useless (but important to me) facts about other movies they’ve acted in, who their partner is and how they made it to fame. I especially find that last one interesting for some reason.
12.Your windshield wipers match the beat of the song you are listening to…
Sometimes I even change my wipers from slow to fast just to see if they will have a better rhythm. You find yourself start nodding your head from side to side as the windshield is going back and forth to the beat of your song. Bliss!
13.When the plane suddenly speeds up on the runway…
This one gets me every time! There’s the sudden rush of adrenaline and you look to the person (hopefully you know them) with a big grin on your face. However, if the person sitting next to you stares back with all the blood drained from their face, their eyes big and pupils dilated, that’s when you know to keep your excitement to yourself and look out the window instead.
14.You lock people out of your car and pretend to drive away…
I love this one, especially when you decide to actually take it t0o far (dependent on the joke recipient’s reaction) and actually drive round the block! It’s even greater when you friend leaves their keys in the car while they pop into a shop, and you move their car to a different park. Simple mind, simple pleasures? Where’s the fun in living life boring though?
15.You answer the phone pretending to be someone else…
I have got so used to using a cellphone that when I go to Mum’s house and the home line rings, I actually get a bit excited answering a phone without caller ID. Sometime is even fun to answer the home line pretending to be “Gerald from Shortland Street”, or once I pretended to be Sheridan… but then that one backfired on me.
16.You go outside after a sun shower…
There is that smell after it has rained from the hot concrete, it’s especially cool when you can see steam as well! This one takes me back to primary school days when there was a sun shower and at lunchtime it was hot again, so you walk on the hot, wet, steaming concrete in bare feet, meanwhile taking in all the smells.
17.You get to use luxury toilet paper…
You go to someone’s house who takes pride in their toilet paper, and invests in ‘Luxury Tissue’, not just your classic ‘Homebrand’ that I’m sure all students can relate to! There’s something fabulous about anything higher than a 2ply tissue toilet paper. Velvety goodness!
18.You are piggybacked somewhere…
Actually, just piggybacking in general. It never gets old and it’s always so much fun! Especially for the one being piggybacked, I don’t know if I could say the same for the one ‘backing’!
19.Hand roller coasters in the wind…
It’s summer, you’re listening to some sweet tunes in the car (e.g. Six60), you’re legs are up on the dashboard, your sunglasses are on, and you stick your hand out the window and you let it roller-coaster up and down against the wind. There’s something cool about letting go of control, but still trusting that everything is going to be alright. Even something as simple as your hand in the wind.
20.Getting called by your nickname…
When someone calls you by your nickname for the first time, or when they don’t usually say it and use it again. You know you’re friends with someone if they call you by your nickname, or if they even know your nickname at all! Of course, this would be different for those people who only are called by their nickname, but for me it’s different because I don’t.
